This song probably could've been song of the week for the past four weeks (true), as I've been listening to it since the 12th January, when All Time Low announced their upcoming album, Future Hearts, and released Something's Gotta Give as the leading single on the same day.
I just love it. I love the band, love the song, love the instrumentation, love the lyrics, love the video. It's all great. The song is so true to the band's sound, with their strong pop/punk vibe all throughout and I've seen so many people talking about how much they love it on twitter, all in great anticipation for the album, much like myself.
The video is really fun, with lead singer, Alex, dressed comically as a box of fries, initially seeming to be going around hugging people, much to the odd dismay of a girl. However it turns out he's actually a zombie and is biting people rather than hugging them, which would obviously be a lot more horrific. I love the sfx makeup; it looks so good on the whole band.
Some of my favourite lyrics are 'filling up the empty space, I've been here way too long', 'I'm a cliche in a song, and everybody's singing along' and 'I'm dying to live, something's gotta give'. I think the 'dying to live' part is more about wanting to actually live for yourself, and live your own way, rather than the whole being turned into a zombie thing, but I think the video is a cool literal interpretation.
All Time Low's upcoming album, Future Hearts, is due for release on 6th April, and I'm really looking forward to hearing all the other songs they've been working on.
Until next time.
