Song of the week #46
Originally released in December 2010, Coldplay's Christmas Lights is a perfect Christmas song, despite its more sombre tone. The piano at the beginning sounds particularly seasonal, with Chris Martin's vocals adding a very chilling effect. I love the build up throughout; the crescendo lifts the song up and it sounds more and more like a Christmas song the more it progresses.
As much as I love the original track, I also think that Yellowcard's cover is brilliant. A flair of punk is added and the song is taken down a rock-ier path. The latter version sounds brighter overall, and I like the substituting of the electric guitar for the previous piano in the intro. It's a wonderfully distinctive interpretation.
Until next time.
