Why does January always feel about 100 days long?
I am sooooo glad to finally see the back of that God-awful month, not least because I have some really fun plans for February.
I started off the month catching up with a friend I used to work with in Oxford. We went for lunch and talked each others' ears off - it was great. And today I'm heading out on a National Trust walk with a friend from school.
As much as I tend to love having an empty weekend all to myself, I love getting the chance to catch up with everyone and spend quality time with people who I used to spend every day of the week with. You really have to make an effort to keep in touch with the people you want to see, as it can be so easy to go from seeing each other all day everyday at work or school and then suddenly seeing each other once a year, if ever.
January was an okay month on the whole. I started my new job, which has been both challenging and stimulating - something my last few jobs really were not. I'm learning again and it feels soooo good. Although I will admit, I am the type of person who wants to know everything straight away, so I have had to be reasonable with myself and take my time to pick it all up. There are some things that I'm sure will take me another six months to master. But it's nice to feel like I'm really doing something at work, and contributing to the bigger picture.
My new colleagues are SO nice, which is quite the relief, because I made so many friends in my last job that I was worried I wouldn't necessarily have the same experience elsewhere. There are loads of people around my age and I've been getting on really well with them, hanging out at lunch and going for a drink after work. I'm very content with it all so far.
In Feb, I will be going on a couple trips, yay! The first is a quick weekend getaway with a group of girls I used to work with. We're having a little staycation in the British countryside so will be a great chance to catch up, go on some nice walks and eat some good food. A couple days after that trip, I'll be going to Budapest with one of my best friends. I am suuuuper excited, as it's been on my list of places to go for the longest time. It'll also be lovely to spend some quality time with Chloe, as she's been living in Manchester for the past few years and I tend to see her only four or five times a year. We're actually going over Valentine's Day, because we're both single af and figured we could be each others' Valentine's - thank God for the friends you can laugh about these things with.
Also, I've done some research and great news everyone, on Feb 25th the sun will finally be up by 7.00am again - FINALLY! Feel like I've been waiting my whole life for this, when in reality it's just been a couple of months. The 25th is also Shrove Tuesday, so it'll be doubly joyous with daylight and pancakes. What a lot to look forward to.
It's gonna be another busy month for me, with a lot already in the diary - that's right, I've been using my diary, there's a new year's resolution that's going well! I'm doing pretty well with all my resolutions, actually. I think I made them fairly realistic - things that I know I should be doing and want to do. I'm particularly proud of how well I'm doing with not buying clothes - I LOVE clothes shopping, so I thought it would be far more difficult than it's been so far. Just another five months left of the ban!
I'm excited for February and I hope you are too! Let me know what you've got planned for the shortest month of the year - and don't forget you've got an extra day to help you accomplish everything you want to!
Until next time.
